STOP BULLYING

September 23, 2013

Everybody knows it happens, every day and everywhere, but no one really does something against it. ‘Bullying’ is what it’s called and we all get confronted with it somehow, we see it happen, we feel it when it happens to us or we’ve done it when we were younger and unknowing of the consequences. There’s no way of denying it, but we try to avoid it.
You’ll probably think now, why does she start talking about it all of a sudden? It’s easy, I saw a girl being bullied today and I realized that I haven’t done something myself to stop it and get the word ‘bullying’ out of the world. No one deserves it and still, there is no real explanation why it still happens. Probably jealousy is what most people say, but are we that jealous then? I don’t believe it. I remember seeing it on the news once, an older guy (about 45 yrs) was being bullied at his work, they tied him on a pallet and he got kicked by his eight colleagues. They must have had a reason to do this, why? The guy’s clothes looked normal and he was just another person that you wouldn’t recognize in a crowd. Why did they pick him exactly. If it wasn’t jealousy, if it wasn’t because of the way he looked, why did they do it then? To have fun? I don’t know.
Anyways, what I mean is that you don’t gain anything by bullying, you only lose, namely your dignity. There’s nothing to be proud of, at all.
As you can see on the photos, I am wearing a green bracelet with ‘you are good’ written on. What does it mean? Well, it’s a campaign started by two young girls from the Netherlands, they wanted to do something against bullying and so they created these bracelets. It’s a good idea, I personally think, because sometimes telling people bullying is bad, isn’t enough. They’re just words, but these bracelets are real, touchable and show people that you actually mean what you say.
My message? Do something against bullying, not alone, but together. X Nausikaä
